Srinagar: As the situation created out of the pandemic worsens in India, Dr. Bilquies Shah, wife of incarcerated Kashmiri resistance leader Shabir Shah has demanded release or shifting of all the Kashmiri Prisoners including her husband lodged in different Indian jails.

Dr. Bilquies, who herself is a reputed medical doctor, wrote on her facebook page “High time to release my husband Shabir Shah and all other Kashmir prisoners lodged at Tihar and across different jails of India. If not release at least shift them to J&K .”

Jammu Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (JKDFP) chief, Shabir Shah is undergoing imprisonment at Tihar jail, Delhi since 2017 after he was abducted by the Indian investigating agency NIA from Srinagar.

Apart from Shabir Shah, other Kashmiri leaders and activists like Mohammad Yasin Malik, Masarrat Alam, Syeda Asiya Andrabi, Nahida Nasreen, Fehmida Sufi, Altaf Ahmad Shah, Ayaz Akbar, Pir Saifullah, Merajuddin Kalwal, Nayeem Khan, Shahidul Islam, Farooq Ahmad Dar, Syed Shahid Yusuf Shah, Syed Shakeel Yousaf Shah, Zahoor Ahmed Watali, etc are also jailed in Tihar.

The appeal of Dr Bilquies Shah has come at a time when reports suggest that lakhs of people get affected by Covid-19 in India on daily basis. It has put the lives of Kashmiri prisoners in high risk because of the fact that they remain far off from their homeland and are being denied the basic facilities.

Shabir Shah, who has spent more than 33 years of his life in different jails, so far, only because of his peculiar political ideology, is suffering many ailments and his health is deteriorating after every passing day. Reports suggest that dozens of other Kashmiri prisoners languishing in different jails of India are also suffering from many ailments and are not being treated properly.

Democratic Freedom Party stresses upon human rights forums and organisations working for prisoners to put their efforts together for the release or shifting of all Kashmiri prisoners including Shabir Shah to their homeland.
