Interactive Session with the Ladies of Pakistani Heritage at Pakistan Consulate B.ham
The Pakistan Consulate Birmingham organized an Interactive Session with the Ladies of Pakistani Heritage, chaired by H.E. Syed Ibne Abbas, Pakistan High Commissioner to the UK. A large number of ladies from Birmingham belonging to various walks of life and professions came to the event and actively participated in the discussion.
The purpose of the event was to provide the British Pakistani women with a platform where they could discuss and deliberate upon common causes and issues.The interaction specifically focused on subjects related to women such as their role in family, upbringing of children, and preservation and promotion of language and cultural heritage. It was recognized that proper education, confidence building and developing effective communication skills were important
for empowerment of women.
Speaking on the occasion, H.E. Syed Ibne Abbas, Pakistan High Commissioner to the UK commended the role of British Pakistani women in the British society. He appreciated their adaptive skills and dedication in looking after their children and families. The High Commissioner said: “You are entrusted with varied roles in society, particularly, the role as mother in raising good children who could become useful and law abiding citizens of the society. You preserve and promote the culture and inculcate good values in the future generations. The importance
of your role can hardly be emphasized more.”
The High Commissioner apprised the attendees of the government of Pakistan’s commitment to empower the women and the legislation done in this regard. He said the Parliament of Pakistan comprises 33% women legislators which shows how much importance Pakistan gives to its women. The High Commissioner also shared with them that Pakistan has moved forward and positive changes are taking place in the country including turnaround in economy and improved security environment.
The attendees took keen interest in discussion and put forward useful and doable suggestions to the High Commission and Consulates for the welfare of British Pakistani women. They also proposed starting online Urdu classes for children by Allama Iqbal Open University. The High Commissioner agreed to the suggestion and
assured to discuss it with the University. The ladies shared several inspiring and success stories of raising happy and successful children and excelling in various professions.
The participants appreciated the initiative of the High Commission and its Consulate for providing a platform for the British Pakistani women. Syed Ahmed Maroof, Consul Birmingham moderated the event.
