High Commissioner gives send off to legendary footballer Ian Rush for his Pakistan trip

London: High Commissioner, Mohammad Nafees Zakaria warmly received the legendary footballer, Ian Rush MBE, who called on him prior to his trip to Pakistan this week. Ian Rush, Liverpool FC Global Ambassador will be promoting grassroots football in Pakistan. He will also be supporting aspiring young footballers so that they can achieve their full potential in this popular sport. Ian Rush was accompanied by Mr Wasim Ahmed, CEO of The Oxford Creative Hub.

The High Commissioner lauded his initiative and said that Pakistan has a sizeable talented youth population, who could be inspired and engaged in sports like football at the professional level.

He mentioned that Pakistan is already part of the world of football sport as world’s best footballs are manufactured in Sialkot. FIFA World Cup had declared Pakistani football as its official football for FIFA 2014 and 2018 World Cup. Agreeing, Ian Rush was upbeat about the prospects of his initiative in Pakistan.

The High Commissioner assured support to Ian Rush and his team in their endeavour towards promoting sport activities in Pakistan.

Ian Rush MBE is regarded as one of the greatest Liverpool players. His aim is to facilitate grassroots football globally. He will be setting up his football foundation IR9 to promote the game in Pakistan.
