Diabetes awareness event for the community on Sunday 10th Nov 2019

Coventry: NHS Coventry and Rugby Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), Coventry Mercia Lions Club supported by BOPA (British Organisation for People of Asian Origin) organised a Diabetes Awareness Event for the community on Sunday 10th November 2019 to mark this year’s World Diabetes Day, Remembrance Day and Holy Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s 550th Birth anniversary. This year’s Diabetes Day is themed as ‘Protect Your Family’ which is ideal for this type of community event where NHS services were delivered at the GNP Gurudwara in Coventry, to offer support and advice about how to access local support services. As well as NHS services being there, the keynote speakers were Dr Bhasha Mukherjee, British Asian Miss of England 2019. Ian Gott, District Governor of Lions Club Intrnational, Dr Abdulah Shehu, Deputy Lieuenant who was representing Mr John Crabtree, Lord Lieutenant for West Midlands, Karam Bhrij President Coventry Mercia Lions and others. Dr Andy Street, Metro Mayor of West Midlands Combined Authority also took part in preparing the Sikh Flag for hoisting and remembering 80,000 Indian soldiers, mostly Sikh who gave their lives in World War 1. The event was a huge success and the management team of GNP Gurudwara expressed their happiness and gratitude to the organisers for holding such a useful event for the benefit of health & well being to the local community.Also present were Karam Bhrij President Coventry Mercia Lions Club, Dr Rakesh Suchdev President BOPA, Tochi Singh Former President Coventry Mercia Lions Club, Ravinder Sandhu Director Castles, Ms Suman, Paul Salahuddin Armstrong, Wifny Yusyifa Subhani, Dr Chithra Ramakrishnan and others.
