Birmingham: Christmas waste collections for households in December 2020 and January 2021 have been confirmed by Birmingham City Council.
No collections will be carried out on Christmas Day (Friday 25 December).
Only household waste will be picked up on the Bank Holiday (Monday 28 December) and New Year’s Day (Friday 1 January). No recycling will be collected on those two days.
Those normally due collections on days mentioned above will next have their waste picked up as follows:
|Normal collection day||First collection after Christmas|
|Friday 25 December||Refuse – Friday 1 January |
Recycling – Friday 8 January
|Monday 28 December||Refuse – Will go ahead as scheduled on Monday 28 December |
Recycling – Monday 11 January
|Friday 1 January||Refuse – Will go ahead as scheduled on Friday 1 January |
Recycling – Friday 15 January
All other collections are scheduled as usual.
Cllr John O’Shea, Cabinet Member for Street Scene and Parks at Birmingham City Council, said: “This year, our crews have gone above and beyond to continue providing a service to the people of the city despite the coronavirus pandemic.
“They’ve again proven their dedication and loyalty to keep the streets clean through a willingness to continue providing services when many will be enjoying a rest from their own jobs.
“On the two Bank Holidays (December 28 and January 1), we won’t be able to provide the complete range of services we do for the rest of the year, but this plan enables us to do as much as we can with the resources available, whilst giving those team members who want a break some well-deserved time off.”
As is usual during the festive period, a reasonable amount of side waste (2-3 sacks) will be picked up as part of the first post-Christmas household waste collection.
On recycling bin day, any excess cardboard should be securely bundled with string and presented next to the bin for collection.
For those who do not wish to wait, the city’s network of five Household Recycling Centres will be open every day across the festive period, apart from Christmas Day and Boxing Day – but all visits must be booked in advance via the web.
If there is any adverse weather that affects collections on any day over Christmas and new year, residents should take their bins back onto their properties and present them on the next scheduled collection day.
