APWA Pakistan to grant official recognition to the APWA Birmingham

Birmingham: APWA Birmingham held a meeting and Iftar at Anchos, Birmingham on 2nd June 2018.

The founder members of APWA attended the event and explained the factors that lead to the initial creation of APWA in Birmingham, as well as explaining how it differed in those days.

In addition the event was used as an opportunity to elect members of the management team including the Chair person – Mrs Riffat Mughal, General Secretary Mrs Rubina Khan, Treasurer Mrs Sajeda Awan, Press secretary- Mrs Saima Haroon, Senior Adviser Samina Raja, Senior executive Nasreen Awan,Naureen Yawar, Uzma Khan, Shazeena Tamoor, Shaam Abbasi, Samina Yaqoob, Naheed Khan, Nageena Sadiq, Attiya Khalid, Nighat Adnan, Kalsoom Akhtar and non executive members in attendance agreed that the current members of the Birmingham APWA Team should continue playing their roles.

The meeting was followed by an announcement by APWA Pakistan to grant official recognition to the APWA team in Birmingham.

The organisation is recognised on a global level. This legacy was left by Begum Ra’ana Liaquat Ali Khan, wife of the first Prime Minister of Pakistan the honourable Mr Liaquat Ali Khan Shaheed. She founded APWA in 1949 to support Pakistani women in accessing opportunities; encouraging them to participate, gain recognition and become involved not only within their own community but on a wider societal platform.

Also present were Cllr Mariam Khan, Salma Shoukat, Abida Babar, Almas, Razia Anwar, Adeela Parvez, Farnaz,Tazeem Imran, Razia Butt, Mushtaq Choudhry, Rabab Aslam, Shagufta Naz, Rubina Raza,Iram, Saima Sheikh, Shahla Gull, Shazia Bashir, Bina Ahmed, Mehreen Aslam, Rozella Amir, Gazalah Ahmed, Mehreen, Dr Nikhat, Munaza, Shamim Akhtar, Fareeda, Rana Shama, Rohee, Shougfta, Yasmeen and others.
